Chia Te wife cakes

If you’re ever in Taipei, Taiwan, do stop by Chia Te bakery.  pineapple cakes are usually the crowd favorite but our family favorite is wife cakes. Technically the Chinese translation is “old wife cakes” – sounds terrible but tastes great, chewy flakiness with a mochi filling. Second favorite is the duck egg yolk with red bean. Salted duck eggs in Taiwan are creamy and just the right amount of salty unlike the over salted eggs sold stateside.

Our cousin overnight fed ex these to us on a recent trip. We’ve never found a bakery stateside that makes it as good as the Taipei shop.
