Los Angeles divided: Art up the street, grime blocks down

Of course all cities are  a tale of two cities, but with adult eyes it’s a new look on your hometown. Love seeing old murals on the LA freeways repainted. Love the revitalization of the art scene in LA but drive  just blocks where the money and redevelopment haven’t been stamped by urban planners, developers and taste makers, it’s a different scene: mostly immigrant and non whites shopping in mom and pop stores. Interesting how middle class urbanites spew the virtues of shopping local but would rarely if ever step foot in one of these brown skinned owned stores in the other part of town.

It’s humbling to be the kid who walked through the LA garment district to buy fabric for homemade dresses to now the mom walking my kids though the art block 30 years later.

Bonus day: another opportunity to see Adele. 😊
