Seattle Humane Society has a program for 5-10 year old children to read to cats ready for adoption.
It’s a win win for the children and cats. The kids get to practice their reading and learn they can give their time and talent to others and have the pleasure of being around adorable cats (well, all cats are adorable). The cats get a wee more attention than usual and a chance to practice socialization as they await adoption to a new home.
Seattle Humane boasts a 97% save rate. Remarkable and wonderful; I hope these small BIG acts of altruism from the children play a part in that success.
We have dogs but our oldest child is allergic to cats so this is a wonderful way for our son to be with his favorite animals – cats!
